Description
Jéröme Savari was born in Paris in 1819. He was the Director of the Military Band of the 34ème de Ligne.
A friend of Adolphe Sax, his works for the saxophone are among the first for this instrument. In addition to
three fantasies for alto saxophone and piano, Savari wrote a series of ensembles which go from duo to octet.
His works were published by Sax between 1861 and 1862. He died in 1870.
This Octet is in one extended movement in three sections: The opening Moderato uses imiataion on a theme
first heard in the lower saxophones. The middle section is in the form of Ländler or folk waltz. The final
Allegro features some chromaticism. The brief coda is a return to the middle Lândler theme.
