Description
Durachaconne for saxophone is dedicated to the memory of Lawrence Pfiefer, the composer's uncle. The work is part of a series of chaconnes for solo saxophone that the composer commissioned for concerts and a recording. The subject of the chaconne is taken from the composer's music for Marguerite Duras' "La Maladie de la Mort". The initial theme is tonally unstable, centered around the interval of the minor second. After exposing the theme, there are sixteen variations and a brief coda.
